Learnpro Modules
In epidemiological studies, chronic pain, that is pain lasting longer than 3mths, has been recorded as affecting nearly a fifth of people. Of this group 3-10% have a neuropathic (nerve dysfunction) component. Chronic pain is frequently encountered and treated in primary care or within community services. A smaller proportion of patients with severe or refractory symptoms require management within specialist pain clinics.
Given its prevalence it is likely that in your professional life you have encountered a patient, colleague or relative who suffers from chronic pain.
